Michael Manley

Michael Manley was a Jamaican politician and trade unionist who led the People’s National Party and served as prime minister from 1972 to 1980 and again from 1989 to 1992. His governments advanced a democratic-socialist programme that included labour and social reforms, while his international role made him a prominent Caribbean voice on economic independence and anti-apartheid solidarity. He also wrote extensively on politics and Caribbean affairs, including *A History of West Indian Cricket*.
