Nikki Giovanni

Nikki Giovanni was an American poet, writer, educator, and activist whose work became a defining voice of the Black Arts Movement. Her poetry addressed race, gender, love, family, and social justice, while her children’s books—including *Rosa*—extended her literary reach. She taught at Virginia Tech from 1987 to 2022 and published more than two dozen poetry, essay, and anthology volumes.
