Nissim Ezekiel

Nissim Ezekiel was a foundational figure in post-independence Indian poetry in English, combining poetry with teaching, editing, criticism, and cultural organizing. His major collections include *A Time to Change*, *The Unfinished Man*, *Hymns in Darkness*, and *Latter-Day Psalms*. Raised in Bombay’s Bene Israel Jewish community, he helped shape the literary culture of modern Mumbai through his work as a poet, professor, editor, and mentor to younger writers.
