Olive Schreiner

Olive Schreiner was a pioneering South African novelist whose best-known work, *The Story of an African Farm* (1883), challenged conventional ideas about gender, belief, and life in the colonial countryside. Her later writing, including *Trooper Peter Halkett of Mashonaland* and *Women and Labour*, confronted imperialism, racism, and women’s inequality. She also became an active pacifist and advocate of universal suffrage, linking her literary work to wider campaigns for human rights and social reform.
