Oliver Tambo

Oliver Tambo was a South African teacher, lawyer, and anti-apartheid leader who helped establish the African National Congress Youth League in 1944. He served as ANC president for decades, much of that time in exile, where he built international opposition to apartheid and preserved the movement’s organizational unity. Tambo returned to South Africa in 1990 and remained a central figure in the transition toward democracy until his death in 1993.
