Omar M. Yaghi

Omar M. Yaghi is an American chemist and UC Berkeley professor whose research established reticular chemistry, the design of extended structures from molecular building blocks. He pioneered metal-organic frameworks and covalent organic frameworks, porous materials with applications including carbon capture, gas storage, catalysis, and harvesting water from desert air. Born in Amman, Jordan, in 1965, Yaghi also founded the Berkeley Global Science Institute and received the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the development of metal-organic frameworks.
