Paul Robeson

Paul Robeson was an American bass-baritone concert singer, stage and film actor, and political activist whose career bridged performance and civil-rights advocacy. He brought spirituals, work songs, blues, and other traditions to international concert audiences while using his public platform to oppose racism and fascism. His major screen and stage roles included The Emperor Jones and Show Boat, and his activism led to the cancellation of his U.S. passport from 1950 to 1958.
