R. A. K. Mason

R. A. K. Mason was a New Zealand poet whose early work, marked by a spare and intense style, established him as a major voice in twentieth-century New Zealand literature. His poetry drew on Latin and Christian traditions, while his later career turned increasingly toward Marxist journalism, political writing, and plays. Mason also worked as a journalist, editor, tutor, and union organizer, and his poems remain central to accounts of New Zealand poetry.
