Ralph Waldo Emerson

Ralph Waldo Emerson was an American philosopher, essayist, poet, and lecturer who became a leading voice of Transcendentalism. His influential works, including Nature, “The American Scholar,” and “Self-Reliance,” emphasized individual intuition, independent thought, and nature as a source of spiritual insight. After leaving the Unitarian ministry, he built a wide-ranging career as a writer and public speaker, influencing American literature and later thinkers such as Henry David Thoreau and John Dewey.
