Richard Whately

Richard Whately was an English rhetorician, logician, economist, and theologian whose writings helped revive the study of logic in nineteenth-century Britain. His Elements of Logic (1826) and Elements of Rhetoric (1828) became influential textbooks, while his lectures on political economy reflected his interest in the emerging discipline. In 1831, he left Oxford after being appointed Archbishop of Dublin, a position he held until his death.
