Robert Lowell

Robert Lowell was an American poet whose career moved from tightly formal verse to the intimate, historically charged style associated with Life Studies (1959). His major works include Lord Weary’s Castle, For the Union Dead, and Day by Day; he also translated classical and modern poets and wrote plays and prose. Lowell served as Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress from 1947 to 1948 and as a Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets from 1962 until his death in 1977.
