Samuel Foote

Samuel Foote was an English actor, playwright, and theatre manager whose sharp comic satires made him a notable figure on the eighteenth-century London stage. He wrote plays including *The Minor*, *The Author*, and *The Lame Lover*, often using mimicry and social caricature to lampoon contemporary manners and personalities. Foote also managed and expanded the Haymarket Theatre, where he developed a reputation for inventive productions and bold theatrical enterprise.
