Sebastian Kappen

Sebastian Kappen was an Indian Jesuit priest and liberation theologian whose work connected Christian theology with Marxist social analysis and the pursuit of human emancipation. A major progressive thinker from Kerala, he examined caste, poverty, institutional religion, and counterculture while drawing on Indian traditions including Buddhism and the Bhakti movement. His writings helped develop an Indian approach to liberation theology grounded in social transformation and dialogue across religious traditions.
