Shuji Nakamura

Shuji Nakamura is a Japanese-born engineer and materials scientist whose work on gallium-nitride semiconductors produced efficient blue light-emitting diodes. Developed during his years at Nichia, this breakthrough enabled bright, energy-saving white-light sources and transformed solid-state lighting. He shared the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics and later joined the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he continued research in wide-bandgap semiconductors and optoelectronics.
