Shūzō Kure

Shūzō Kure was a Japanese psychiatrist and medical historian who helped establish modern psychiatric practice in Japan. After studying in Europe, he became a professor at Tokyo Imperial University in 1901 and later led major psychiatric hospitals in Tokyo. He co-founded Japan’s first national psychiatric society and documented the conditions of people confined in private homes, while also contributing to the history of medicine.
