Sidney Nolan

Sidney Nolan was a major Australian modernist whose work drew on the country’s landscapes, history, myths, and legends. His celebrated Ned Kelly paintings transformed the nineteenth-century bushranger into an enduring visual symbol, while his wide-ranging practice encompassed painting, sculpture, installation, and printmaking. Nolan developed an international reputation and was recognized with a knighthood, the Order of Merit, and appointment as a Companion of the Order of Australia.
