Slim Dusty

Slim Dusty was an Australian country singer and songwriter whose career helped define the country’s bush-ballad tradition. Born David Gordon Kirkpatrick, he toured extensively with his wife and musical collaborator, Joy McKean, and wrote about Australian people, places, and working life. His recording of “A Pub With No Beer” became Australia’s first gold record, while songs such as “Lights on the Hill” and “Waltzing Matilda” strengthened his place in the national musical heritage.
