Steve McQueen

Steve McQueen was an American actor whose laconic, rebellious screen presence made him one of the defining stars of 1960s and 1970s Hollywood. He became widely known through the television western *Wanted: Dead or Alive* and films including *The Great Escape*, *Bullitt*, *The Thomas Crown Affair*, and *Papillon*. His performance in *The Sand Pebbles* earned his sole Academy Award nomination, while his enthusiasm for motorcycles and fast cars reinforced his enduring “King of Cool” image.
