Te Kirihaehae Te Puea Herangi

Te Kirihaehae Te Puea Hērangi was a central twentieth-century leader of the Kīngitanga and a powerful advocate for the Tainui people. She opposed Māori conscription during the First World War and helped establish Tūrangawaewae at Ngāruawāhia as a renewed centre for the King Movement. Her leadership combined political persistence, cultural preservation, and practical community organisation until her death in 1952.
