Theophan the Recluse

Theophan the Recluse was a Russian Orthodox bishop, theologian, and spiritual writer whose books and letters focused on Christian formation, prayer, and the struggle against sinful habits. He also helped translate and expand the Philokalia into Russian, making Eastern Christian ascetic writings more accessible to Russian readers. After serving as a bishop and rector, he spent his later years in reclusion at Vysha Monastery, where he continued writing and corresponding with those seeking spiritual guidance.
