About Thomas Burchell
Thomas Burchell was an English Baptist missionary who worked in Jamaica from 1824 until his death in 1846, becoming a prominent advocate against slavery. Based in Montego Bay, he helped establish Baptist churches and supported the development of free villages for emancipated people. His ministry also connected him with Samuel Sharpe and the political and religious upheavals surrounding Jamaica’s Baptist War.
