About Thomas Pringle

Thomas Pringle (1789–1834) was a Scottish poet, journalist, and abolitionist whose writing helped establish English-language poetry about South Africa. After emigrating to the Cape Colony in 1820, he wrote about its landscapes and communities and became involved in journalism and debates over press freedom. He later served as secretary of the Anti-Slavery Society and edited The History of Mary Prince, a West Indian Slave (1832).
