Tom Mboya

Tom Mboya was a Kenyan trade-union leader and independence activist who helped turn organized labor into a powerful force in the anticolonial movement. After Kenya gained independence in 1963, he served as Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs and later as Minister for Economic Planning. A prominent Luo statesman and advocate of educational opportunity, Mboya was assassinated in Nairobi in 1969 at age 38.
