U Nu

U Nu was a leading Burmese independence politician and the first prime minister of independent Burma. He helped drive the anti-colonial student movement at Rangoon University, later leading the country’s government during three periods between 1948 and 1962. His political career ended after General Ne Win’s 1962 coup, after which U Nu remained an important figure in Burmese democratic and nationalist politics.
