Uthman Dan Fodio

Uthman dan Fodio was a Fulani Islamic scholar, religious reformer, writer, and revolutionary leader in nineteenth-century West Africa. Through a reform movement and jihad beginning in 1804, he founded the Sokoto Caliphate, which brought much of Hausaland and neighboring territories under a unified Muslim administration. He also produced more than one hundred scholarly works that shaped religious and political thought across the region.
