Violeta Parra

Violeta Parra was a Chilean musician, composer, and folklorist whose fieldwork helped preserve and renew rural musical traditions, especially songs of Chile’s central countryside. During the 1950s, she traveled widely to collect traditional songs and performed them for broader audiences through recordings, radio, and live appearances. She also founded the Museo Nacional del Arte Folclórico Chileno at the University of Concepción and developed a parallel practice in painting, embroidery, ceramics, and sculpture.
