Wen Tianxiang

Wen Tianxiang was a Southern Song statesman and poet who ranked first in the 1256 imperial examination and later held important provincial and court offices. As the Mongol conquest advanced, he organized military resistance and refused to submit after his capture, spending years in captivity before his execution in 1283. His writings and steadfast loyalty made him an enduring symbol of resistance and patriotic duty in Chinese history.
