Whanki Kim

Whanki Kim was a pioneering Korean abstract painter whose work joined modernist experimentation with Korean lyricism and traditional imagery. After studying in Tokyo, he taught at Seoul National University and Hongik University, worked in Paris and New York, and gradually moved from semi-figurative subjects toward monochromatic abstraction. His later New York paintings are especially associated with all-over fields of repeated dots, lines, and color.
