William Godwin

William Godwin was an English journalist, political philosopher, and novelist whose 1793 treatise An Enquiry Concerning Political Justice made him a foundational figure in philosophical anarchism. His novel Caleb Williams (1794) combined psychological suspense with a critique of aristocratic power, securing his literary reputation. Godwin also shaped London’s radical and literary circles and later wrote works of history, education, biography, and children’s literature.
