Yasser Arafat

Yasser Arafat was a Palestinian political leader who chaired the Palestine Liberation Organization and led Fatah, the PLO’s largest constituent movement. He became the first president of the Palestinian Authority, established through the Oslo process, and shared the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize with Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres. Arafat remained a central—and deeply contested—figure in Palestinian national politics until his death in 2004.
