Yasujirō Ozu was a Japanese film director and screenwriter whose career began at Shochiku in the silent era. His mature work focused on the changing realities of Japanese family life, notably in *Late Spring* (1949), *Tokyo Story* (1953), and *An Autumn Afternoon* (1962).
