Because I am an artist, and in the kind of art I believe in and to which I have given my whole allegiance, there is no place for anything that has to do with social, economic or political problems.

Understanding this quote
The speaker draws a firm boundary around art. They believe the kind of art they practise should contain nothing connected to social, economic, or political problems. “Given my whole allegiance” shows complete dedication to this artistic principle, rather than a partial preference. The statement presents art as separate from public issues and practical concerns.
